Safety Gear You Need to Ride a Motorcycle
Before you head out onto the open road you’ll want to read our article to be sure you’ve got all the gear necessary for a safe ride! If you’re missing any of the accessories on our list you can stop by our location in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, or view our motorclothes department online here.
Helmet
While the law varies from location to location, across many states in the U.S. it’s required that motorcycle riders wear a helmet. Local ordinances may also require you to use a helmet that is DOT (Department of Transportation) approved. When selecting your helmet you’ll want to try it on to confirm that it fits snugly and doesn’t block your view in any way. It’s also advised to purchase a helmet with a visor to protect you from the wind, though this is an optional feature.
Boots
One of the most important and overlooked components of motorcycle safety is footwear. While any close-toed shoe will work fine for a short ride, long trips in bad footwear may result in painful joints and rider discomfort. We advise purchasing a pair of durable motorcycle boots. Not only will these last you for years to come, but they’ll also provide the necessary support to keep you comfortable on long trips.
Protective Clothing
While jeans and a thick jacket may work for trips around town, if you plan to drive at high speeds or for long distances you’ll need some more protective clothing. Thankfully, there are quite a few options available on the market. Generally speaking, you’ll want a durable motorcycle jacket as well as chaps (or pants). However other types of gear such as riding gloves and rain gear are also available.
While there is quite a bit more safety gear available, we’ve kept our list to the essentials you’ll need for every ride. If you’re located nearby in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, and are in need of motorcycle safety gear, or even a new motorcycle, we hope you’ll visit us here at Horsepower Harley-Davidson®!
